During the construction and operation of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, XPS (extruded polystyrene foam) boards were widely used due to their outstanding thermal insulation, moisture resistance, compressive strength, and fireproof properties. Applications include:
Terminals (T1, T2)
Ground moisture-proofing layer: XPS boards are laid beneath terminal floors to prevent groundwater vapor rise, ensuring dryness and stability.
Roof insulation system: Used for thermal insulation on terminal roofs, reducing AC energy consumption.
Curtain wall insulation: Serves as backing insulation to enhance energy efficiency.
Runways & Aprons
Base moisture barrier: Installed under concrete layers to prevent groundwater seepage and frost heave risks.
Shock-absorbing layer: In high-load areas (e.g., taxiways), XPS disperses pressure, extending runway lifespan.
Underground Works (parking lots, tunnels)
Waterproofing layer: Prevents leaks and mold in underground parking and baggage tunnels.
Thermal/acoustic insulation: Reduces heat/cold transfer and noise transmission.
Other Applications
Cold storage & cargo area insulation: XPS maintains low temperatures in freight cold storage.
Fireproof barriers: A2-grade fire-resistant XPS boards (e.g., coated composite XPS) enhance fire safety.
